From Barley To Beer To Breakfast
Our grain does get around a lot! We use a lot of malted barley at the brewery, which comes to us in rather hefty 25kg sacks. Once we've winched it all upstairs it gets loaded into the hopper as you can see here:
After we've loaded the hopper we mill the grain to the brewer's specifications for our recipe. The resulting grist is carried into the mash tun for brewing.
After brewing's finished and the spent grain is cooled, the mash tun is dug out:
We package up the used grain into those same 25kg sacks and seal them up for use as animal feed. Once we've dug out the whole brew (around half a tonne for grain!) the barley is taken up to a local farmer Clive at Swan's Farm , where it gets reused to feed his animals.
So from barley to beer to breakfast!
